The Home dashboard gives you a personalized view of your business, including financial performance, projects, tracked time, tasks, and recent activity.
The information shown on your dashboard depends on your role and permissions. You can also customize which sections appear and arrange them in the order that works best for you.
Manage your dashboard
The Home dashboard can include the following sections, depending on your permissions:
Summary metrics — View Paid This Month, Outstanding Invoices, Active Projects, and Pipeline Value at a glance.
Income & Expenses — Compare paid income and expenses over time, view profit and margin, and set a monthly income goal. You can also change the time period shown.
Tracked Time — See hours tracked during a selected period. Users with billing permission can also see billable and unbilled amounts.
Top Clients — See your highest-paying clients ranked by revenue for the selected period. Select View All to see the complete list.
Project Hours — Compare tracked hours across active projects using a visual heatmap. Hover over a section to see the period and hours tracked.
My Tasks — See tasks assigned to you, including the task title, due date, project, and status. You can mark a task as complete directly from the dashboard or select View All to open your full task list.
Recently Viewed — Quickly access records you recently opened in Bonsai. Select View All to open global search.
Recent Activity — Review recent activity and open the related records. Select View All to see the complete activity feed.
Some sections may not appear if you do not have permission to access the information they contain.
Customize your layout
You can choose which available sections appear on your Home dashboard and change their order. To customize your dashboard:
Open Home.
Select Manage.
Turn sections on or off.
Drag sections to arrange them in your preferred order.
Review the layout using the live preview.
Your dashboard layout is personal to you and remains saved when you return to Bonsai. Other members can customize their own dashboards independently.
You only see customization options for sections that your permissions allow you to access.
Change the currency view
If your company bills in more than one currency, a currency selector appears at the top of the Home dashboard.
Select a currency to apply it across the dashboard's supported financial information, including:
Summary metrics
Income & Expenses
Top Clients
Billable and unbilled amounts in Tracked Time
USD is the default currency view, with amounts converted where applicable.
The currency selector only appears when your company uses more than one billing currency.
Dashboard permissions
The Home dashboard is permission-aware, so different members may see different sections and information.
Owners and Partners can access the full dashboard, including financial metrics, Income & Expenses, Top Clients, Project Hours, Tracked Time, My Tasks, Recently Viewed, and Recent Activity.
Project Managers can access My Tasks, Tracked Time, Recently Viewed, Recent Activity, and project information for projects they can access. Project Managers can see tracked time within their project access.
Collaborators can access My Tasks, their own Tracked Time, Recently Viewed, Recent Activity, and project information for projects they can access.
Custom permission profiles can have different dashboard sections available based on the permissions assigned to the profile. Access to invoices, deals, projects, expenses, tasks, time entries, and billing information can affect which sections are available.
If you cannot see a particular dashboard section, check that you have the permissions required to access the underlying information.
Understand empty dashboard sections
When a section does not have information to display yet, the Home dashboard provides a relevant action to help you get started. Depending on the section, you may be prompted to:
Send an invoice
Create a task
Log time
Start a project
These prompts help you quickly add the information needed for the dashboard to display useful data.
