How to set service hourly rate

Manage billing for projects that include multiple services with different hourly rates.

The Service Hourly Rate feature connects:

  • A service

  • A task

  • A time entry billable rate

When a user logs time against a task linked to a service, the system automatically applies the service’s hourly rate as the default billable rate on the new time entry. This prevents users from needing to manually select or calculate billing rates for each entry.

Configure service hourly rate

Step 1: Open project settings

  1. Navigate to Projects

  2. Select the project you want to update

  3. Click the three dots (⋯) in the top-right corner

  4. Select Settings

Step 2: Open the Billing tab

  1. In Project Settings, select the Billing tab

  2. Locate the Billable Rate section

  3. Select Service Hourly Rate

Create a service with an hourly rate

To use this feature, the service must use the Per Hour billing type.

Steps

  1. Navigate to Services

  2. Create a new service or edit an existing service

  3. Set the service type to Per Hour

  4. Enter the hourly billing rate

  5. Save the service

After creating the service, assign it to the appropriate task.

Steps

  1. Open the project task list

  2. Create a new task or edit an existing task

  3. Select the applicable service for the task

  4. Save the task

Each task can be associated with a service that defines its billing rate.

Result

When a user creates a new time entry for a task linked to a service:

  • The system automatically applies the associated service hourly rate

  • The service rate becomes the default billable rate on the time entry

  • Users do not need to manually enter billing values

This helps standardize billing across projects with multiple service types.
