What are project IDs
Unique ID assigned to each project for improved project tracking and management.
Project IDs are automatically active on all projects universally, and are based on the project numbering system set within your company settings.
Note: By default, project ID prefix will be base on your client ID (first 3 letters of client's name) and the counter will take all projects into account.
Understanding project numbering
Prefix options include the client ID, year, and your own custom option:
When choosing Client ID as the prefix, the counter options can be adjusted to "All Projects" or "Per Client".
All Projects Counter: The "All Projects" counter shows a total count of every project in your account, no matter which client they belong to. For example, if you have only 2 clients and each has 2 projects, the IDs could be: MIC-0001, AMA-0002.
Client Projects Counter: The "Client Projects" counter shows a count of projects specific to each client. Using the same example as above, the IDs could be: MIC-0001, AMA-0001.
How Counters Work:
Incrementing Count: When you create a new project, its ID should follow the highest number in the sequence of existing project IDs.
Example: If you change a project ID from AMA-0001 to AMA-0006, and AMA-0006 becomes the highest number, the next project ID will be AMA-0007.
Consistent Counting: This rule applies to both "All Projects" and "Client Projects" counters.
Maintaining Sequence: If you change an ID but it doesn't exceed the current highest number in the sequence, the starting point for future project IDs won't change.
This system ensures that project IDs are assigned in a consistent and orderly manner across your account.
How to customize project IDs
Project ID format can be customized directly from the company settings:
Additionally, the Client ID and the project counter can be adjusted directly on the projects page by clicking the edit project name icon.
Note: Any changes to an existing numbering system will override any previously made customizations across all past and present projects.
