Bonsai has updated its terminology: what was previously called “Clients” is now called “Companies.”
This is a label-only change. There are no changes to functionality, data, or workflows. Here's everything you need to know.
What changed?
The label “Clients” → “Companies”
This applies across the Bonsai product interface where applicable
Bookmarked URLs using
/clientsnow redirect to/companies
Why this change was made
The term “client” implied that every record represented an active paying customer. In practice, records in Bonsai may represent:
Prospective customers (leads)
Active clients
Partners or collaborators
Organizations in early-stage discussions
“Companies” is a more flexible and accurate term that allows you to define the relationship type yourself, rather than the system assuming it.
This also aligns Bonsai with common CRM conventions used by tools such as HubSpot and Pipedrive.
What has NOT changed
Your existing data remains unchanged
No records were deleted or modified
All features and workflows remain the same
Permissions and access controls are unchanged
The Client Portal name remains the same (it refers to the recipient experience, not the CRM object)
/clientsURLs automatically redirect to/companiesExisting relationships, invoices, contracts, and documents are unaffected
FAQs
Will my existing records still be there?
Yes. All “clients” are now displayed as “companies,” but nothing has been removed or altered.
Do I need to take any action?
No action is required. The update is automatic.
What happens to my bookmarks or old links?
Links using/clientswill redirect automatically to/companies.
Why is it still called “Client Portal”?
The Client Portal refers to the external-facing experience for recipients of shared documents. It describes a workflow, not a database object.
