Why your connected account for expenses may disconnect

Taking a look at why your account may disconnect when importing expenses.

Updated over a week ago

If you have connected an account in Bonsai to import your expenses (using our Plaid integration) but it keeps disconnecting, it could be due to one of the following reasons:

You are importing multiple accounts from the same institution.

If you try connecting one account at a time from the same institution, you may find that previously added accounts disconnect. To avoid this issue, you should re-select all the accounts you are importing each time you reconnect the same institution.

The login and password associated with your financial institution may have changed

To solve this problem, first verify your login and password on your financial institution’s website, then go back into the app and try reconnecting your accounts.

Action may be required with your bank account

In some cases, our integration partner, Plaid, may be unable to connect to your bank due to a required action, such as agreeing to new terms of service or setting up a new security requirement. You can resolve these issues by logging into your online banking portal and completing the necessary actions.

The Plaid integration may be experiencing technical difficulties

Though uncommon, the issue may sometimes be on Plaid’s end. If you are running into difficulties with the integration or connecting your account for expenses, please contact our support team for further information.

Note: To resolve most connection issues with your connected account, simply deleting the account and reconnecting it may fix the problem.
