Understanding debit/credit card payment failures

Updated over 6 months ago

Declines can happen for a variety of reasons. When we submit a charge to your bank, they have automated systems that determine whether or not to accept the charge. These systems can take in a number of different variables to the charge, but utlimately, it would be up to your financial institution to approve or deny the charge.

Since these variables can change, a previously successful card might be declined in the future. Even if all of the card information is correct, and your customer previously had a successful payment, a future charge can still be declined by a bank’s fraud systems.

In most cases, your financial institution will have more information than we can provide as to the reason your payment method was declined. If you have already reached out to your financial institution and need more information, please don't hesitate to get in touch with our Support team.
